The Boy from Mars by Simon James

Josh’s mum is going to be away for a night. This is seriously scary for Josh, so he goes to Mars and a martian comes back in his place to deal with this difficult situation. Dad manages to take it in his stride, parrying martian claims about washing and going to bed etc (‘I think you’ll find martians don’t…’) with a neat sidestep of ‘I think you’ll find on Earth they do…’
Being a martian does not work completely and poor Josh, I mean the martian, finds himself sitting outside Miss Cosmos’s office ‘thinking about his behaviour’. But when mum arrives home the martian rushes off and Josh comes back for a hug.
With engaging, nicely-written text and easy flowing illustrations, this is a warm and helpful book.
