The Story of the Dancing Frog by Quentin Blake

Light-hearted and touching at the same time, the story of the frog who becomes a Broadway hit dancing with Fred Astaire springs from the imagination of a tired mum to entertain her son. If we chose, we can realise that this tale of Great Aunt Gertrude who so nearly drowned herself when her captain husband was lost at sea, touches closer to home. For the storyteller’s partner also is gone and the frivolity conceals and reveals the sadness mother and son are coming to terms with.

One of Quentin Blake’s less familiar books, it is not only illustrated with his customary blend of verve and feeling, but is beautifully written by him too.
