Have you seen Elephant? by David Barrow

Like No! by Marta Altes, this is built round a joke: the elephant who is good at hiding – sort of. Certainly the boy and his folks don’t find him. But boy’s dog spots him, not fooled by the curtains, the telly or the tree. So lots of fun for the child who has, maybe fairly recently, realised that just because I can’t see you it doesn’t mean you can’t see me.

David Barrow has created a very friendly elephant; he may hide, but he’s not mean. And the splashy watercolour, ink and chalk pictures feel friendly too, inviting the reader/viewer into a world that feels welcoming and real. Not surprising that he won an award with it for ‘most promising children’s illustrator’ in 2015. More about his work here.
