A Child’s Garden by Michael Foreman

A simple tale of hope, it may help a child who is wondering about how the world is that people find it hard to manage without barbed wire divisions. Gardens are not only unfazed by fences, they may actually use them to grow up and through and over. And the patience of a small boy, through spring and summer and winter and despair may bring peace into the world, even if it needs more patience yet.

Michael Foreman (you can watch an interview with him here) is a very skilled artist, but he wears his skill lightly. He doesn’t need to flash it before us; all is bent to fulfilling his purpose – to communicate hope. A war zone of rubble, a life of hardship, the beauty of a garden and a vision of the future are all presented to us with a clarity and simplicity that carries much feeling.

For a child who needs to know she or he makes a difference, here is encouragement.
